about this artist
Born in 1963, Whiteread's sculptures typically represent
domestic spaces. Using materials such as plaster, resin and rubber, she
frequently reverses convention by moulding not the object itself, but
an area it creates.
In this piece, the norms of casting are more closely followed - but it
is the space around the objects which resonates. A collection of household
furniture is gathered as if on sale or awaiting removal. What exactly
is the story behind its presence?
