Born in Tokyo in 1970, Jonathan Meese studied at the Hamburg Art Academy and first attracted the interest of the international art scene at the Berlin Biennial in 1998.
A leading member of the so-called 'newactionists', Meese's powerful work in media ranging from paint to performance examines the age-old configurations of power and desire, and what they really mean to today's society.
