about this artist

Born in Germany in 1962, Franz Ackermann was one of a new generation of German painters attracting international acclaim in the mid 1990s.

Much of Ackermann's earliest work is influenced by travel and his attempts to depict environments emotionally through 'mental mapping'. Traditional cartographic techniques fused with artistic response remain a particular influence in his work.
