Born in 1962, Richter has achieved international fame alongside fellow German artists such as Neo Rauch and Franz Ackermann.

Despite the almost ethereal appearance of much of his work, Richter's themes often include forms of very human conflict in which, disturbingly, instigator can rarely be distinguished from the victim.
