In recent years London-based artist Stuart Cumberland's work has shifted from loose, abstracted figuration to a pure abstraction in which flowing, gestural marks form the principal focus of each painting.
Usually rendered on grounds of monochromatic, though subtly multi-toned colour, more recent works have begun to incorporate printed halftone backgrounds allowing for an interplay of geometric and painterly form.
