Monika Grzymala: current contemporary drawing

Monika Grzymala

A Polish artist now resident in Berlin, Monika Grzymala (b. 1970) envisages drawing as a spatial exploration poised somewhere between installation and abstract line drawing.

Grzymala's works are prepared using lengths of tape attached to surfaces - or stretched between them - to create dynamic pictorial/sculptural hybrids.

Although limiting herself to a single material, Grzymala exploits the various properties of tape almost as if it were a conventional mark-making medium.

Manipulating different thicknesses and colours into ray-like strokes, short staccato lines or even dexterous curves, these works physically expand the notion of drawing into space itself.
